Frame with Tribal Kalabubu Necklace from Nias
A SYMBOL OF PRESTIGE
This neck ring called Kalabubu is handmade in coconut and brass and comes from the island of Nias, off the Western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia.
As a symbol of high prestige necklaces like these were worn by warrior men who were only allowed to wear them once they had killed an enemy and brought his head back home.
By carrying the enemies head back to the village the warrior brought protective forces to his community and family.
It's encapsulated inside a black and gold wooden frame with a white fabric base and cream coloured passe-partout. Being artisan crafted each necklace is very slightly different.
It comes complete with it's story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope.
