A SYMBOL OF DIVINE PROSPERITY
This wooden horse statue (Kuda means horse in Indonesian) was carved by hand by local artisans on the island of Sumba in Indonesia, made as per ancient techniques.
In Sumba horses are considered to be almost at the same level as the ancestors who rule the universe, being used for many purposes, the most important being as a dowry in wedding rituals and as offerings during funeral ceremonies, allowing the dead to ride to their ancestors in the afterlife.
The amount of horses a family has represent its social status.
The statue comes complete on a black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope.
Being handmade each statue is slightly different and each has natural, visible cracks as beautiful signs of the aging of the wood.
