The bird trap comes from the island of Lombok in Indonesia and is made in wood by local artisans, crafted with ancient techniques. In the area traps like this have been used for centuries to capture small song birds, loved for their voices and as status symbols. In fact, they’re the most popular pets in Indonesia and a saying goes: “A man is only considered a real man if he has a house, a wife, a horse, a dagger and a bird”. Birds are believed to be sacred connections between the earth and the sky, bonding the human and spiritual world, bringing enlightenment, hope, and wisdom. 

The urn is handmade in Terracotta and comes from the island of Java in Indonesia. Urns like these have been used to put incense and store the ash for praying since ancient times. The practice of pottery making in Indonesia dates back to pre-historic times and is still used today by the villagers for various needs, both practical and sacred.

The suite comes with the stories of the artefacts printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted with organic materials each urn is slightly different containing beautiful, natural imperfections. The net of the bird trap is slightly open in the back like shown in the photo.
