Set of 2 Tribal Kalabubu Necklaces from Nias
SYMBOLS OF PRESTIGE
This set of neck rings called Kalabubu is handmade in coconut and brass. Necklaces like these were worn by warrior men called head-hunters in the island of Nias, off the Western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. As a symbol of high prestige, the warriors were only allowed to wear this necklace once they had killed an enemy and brought his head back to the village. By carrying the enemies head back to the village the warrior brought protective forces to his community.
The set comes complete with blackened metal stands and its story printed for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted each piece is slightly different.
Dimensions: ca 25 x 7cm wide x 37 and 44cm tall with stands.
