TREASURES OF THE TIDES

Sale price€399,44 EUR

This elegant ensemble brings together two abalone shell necklaces from Papua and two brass pectoral breast plates from Timor, Indonesia. Presented on blackened metal stands, this four-piece decorative set celebrates traditional adornment as sculptural art for refined interiors.

Handcrafted from iridescent abalone shells and natural fibres, the Papuan necklaces reflect longstanding traditions of personal adornment. Shells have historically been associated with prosperity, status and ceremonial exchange across the Asia-Pacific region.

The pectoral breast plates are crafted by artisans in Timor from brass with an antique silver-coloured finish. Their celestial-inspired motifs evoke the cosmos. Ornaments of this type have traditionally been associated with ceremonial prestige and marriage exchanges. The finish is silver-coloured; the underlying material is brass.

Together, the four pieces combine pearlescent shells with softly antiqued metallic tones, creating an elegant display for a console, cabinet or shelf in a living room or bedroom. This set is offered as decorative art on stands, rather than jewellery for wearing.

The set includes all four blackened metal stands and printed stories of the artefacts, presented in a beautiful envelope. Books not included.

Each piece is artisan crafted, so shell colours, surface details and plate motifs may vary. Natural imperfections are part of their individual character. The handmade metal supports may also show slight irregularities in shape and finish.

DIMENSIONS INCLUDING THE BLACKENED METAL SUPPORTS:

  • The necklaces: approx. 52 and 40 cm high, 33 cm in diameter and 9 cm wide.
  • The breast plates: approx. 12.5 cm in diameter × 27 and 23.5 cm high.
