Tribal Kalabubu Necklace from Nias

Sale price€155,00 EUR

A SYMBOL OF PRESTIGE

This neck ring called Kalabubu is handmade in coconut and brass. Necklaces like these were worn by warrior men called head-hunters in the island of Nias, off the Western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. As a symbol of high prestige, the warriors were only allowed to wear this necklace once they had killed an enemy and brought his head back to the village. By carrying the enemies head back to the village the warrior brought protective forces to his community.

 Dimensions: ca 25 x 7cm wide x 37cm tall with the stand.

The necklace comes complete with a blackened metal stand and its story printed for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted each piece is slightly different.

We ship worldwide. If your country is not listed in the checkout please contact us for a shipping quote.
