This special coin called Pis bolong comes from the island of Bali in Indonesia, made by local artisans with the ancient technique of sand casting.

It's crafted with a sacred alloy called Panca Datu meaning the five strengths of life, consisting of gold, silver, copper, bronze and iron. Each of the metals have a divine meaning and potency, symbolising the power of the gods. In Balinese culture it is believed that if we own a pis bolong life will be beautiful. The coin is decorated with the Balinese words: Sa, Ba, Ta, A, representing the strength in the 4 corner stones of the compass.

The Pis Bolong originated from ancient China and were brought to Indonesia centuries ago. They were made with a central hole for stringing together, making them easy to carry and use for trade.
