A SYMBOL OF FERTILITY AND PROSPERITY

This gorgeous vintage statue was made by artisans in Bali sometimes during the 1980’s, crafted in bronze with ancient techniques.

Dewi Sri has been the Balinese, Javanese and Sundanese Hindu Goddess of rice and fertility since the first century AD and is still widely worshiped on the islands today
as a symbol of fertility, abundance, and prosperity. The Balinese worship her with elaborate rituals, festivals and offerings, especially during the rice planting and harvesting seasons. Farmers create small shrines in the rice fields, offering flowers, fruits, and woven decorations made from palm leaves. Dewi Sri is also worshipped in daily life with small offerings that are placed in homes, temples and rice fields to seek her blessings.

The Subak, Bali’s traditional irrigation and cooperative farming system, is deeply connected to the worship of Dewi Sri with temples dedicated to her and rituals performed to ensure a successful harvest. Despite modernization, the love of Dewi Sri and the master artisanship to depict her continues, with practices carried on through the communities, preserving this rich tradition for future generations.

The statue comes complete on a black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. The handmade metal support carry its own authenticity, with subtle imperfections and the potential for a natural patina to emerge over time.

Dimensions including the metal support: 33 x 10 x 10cm
