Guardian lions have a rich history that dates back to ancient China, where they were believed to protect sacred spaces such as temples and palaces. Over time, this tradition spread to other parts of Asia, including Indonesia, where the they took on unique local characteristics. In Indonesian culture, guardian lions are revered as powerful protectors that ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune.
Often depicted in pairs, with one holding a ball (representing the world) and the other holding a cub (symbolizing nurture), they embody the balance of power and protection.
