ANTIQUE INDONESIAN BRONZE MULTI-FACED HEAD

Sale price€848,73 EUR

A SYMBOL OF COSMIC BALANCE

Created in Indonesia at the beginning of the 1900s, this bronze head reflects the sacred Majapahit-style imagery that has shaped Javanese art for centuries.

Multi-faced figures like this appear prominently in Hindu-Buddhist traditions across Southeast Asia, often representing Brahma or the Trimurti — the sacred triad of creation, preservation, and transformation. The elaborate, multi-tiered crown represents spiritual authority and elevated cosmic status, while the calm, meditative expressions suggest perfect balance, wisdom, and inner peace.

For generations, Javanese artisans created bronze sculptures inspired by ancient temple traditions and devotional imagery. Pieces like this were often placed in homes, shrines, and sacred spaces, where they served as visual reminders of mindfulness, reflection, and spiritual harmony.

The sculpture was made using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. The form was first shaped in wax, then covered in clay before molten bronze was poured into the mold. This method has been used for centuries to capture fine details while preserving the character of handmade work.

The sculpture is mounted on a black metal support and comes with its printed story enclosed in a refined envelope.

As a natural characteristic of bronze, the patina may continue to evolve subtly over time, developing gentle variations in tone that are part of the material’s authentic ageing process.
