This vintage bronze sculpture represents Ganesha, one of the most beloved figures in Hindu tradition. Created in Java in the mid-1900s, the sculpture reflects the long history of Hindu culture that once flourished across the island.

Recognized by his elephant head, Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles and the bringer of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. For centuries he has been invoked at the start of journeys, important decisions, and new ventures. In this lively dancing form, Ganesha expresses joy, movement, and creative energy. The raised leg and flowing posture suggest celebration and balance — a reminder that progress often comes through adaptability and resilience.

Ganesha figures appeared in temples and sacred spaces throughout ancient Java during the great Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms that shaped the region’s art and spirituality. Sculptures like this continued to be created by local artisans, inspired by those earlier traditions.

The sculpture was made using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. The form was first shaped in wax, then covered in clay before molten bronze was poured into the mold. This process allows fine details while preserving the character of handmade work.

The sculpture is mounted on a blackened metal support and comes with its printed story enclosed in an elegant envelope.

As a natural characteristic of bronze, the patina may continue to evolve subtly over time, developing gentle variations in tone that are part of the material’s authentic ageing process.
