Hand Carved Buffalo Scull From Bali
A SYMBOL OF GOOD LUCK
This stunning buffalo scull was hand carved on the island of Bali in Indonesia, where local artisans have perfected the skill for centuries. The buffalo is one of the most important animals in Indonesia, measuring a family’s wealth and power as well as being a crucial element in ceremonies.
In Bali buffalo sculls were placed inside the house to repel bad energy and attract good luck, while in Toraja on the island of Sulawesi they were, and still are today, placed outside of one’s house to demonstrate the family’s wealth and social status. During funeral rites in Toraja as many bulls as the family can afford are bought so they can accompany the deceased to the afterlife.
The buffalo scull comes complete with a black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope.
You have the option to purchase the piece with or without the stand with a 50 Euro price difference.
Dimensions without the stand: 48 x 65 x 22cm, height of the scull with the stand: 104cm
