This beautiful necklaces shaped like a sun comes from Papua and was hand crafted by local artisans with spiral and cowrie shells embroidered onto a crochet base in natural fibre.

 Across Asia the sun is believed to be the bestower of light and life, the totality of the cosmos, of justice, and the ultimate symbol of enlightenment. On Papua shell necklaces have been worn by local tribes since ancient times, to enhance the body as well as marking status and achievements.

In the past, shells travelled on long pathways through the Asian Pacific, used as exchange items or currency and for creating ties or relationships between people.

 

The necklace comes complete with a black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope.  Being handmade each piece is slightly different with natural imperfections.
