The Queen of Leti - Wooden Totem from Sumba
A SYMBOL OF PROTECTION
This wooden totem is carved by hand and comes from the island of Sumba in Indonesia, made with a human form in honour to the Marapu (ancestral spirits). Since ancient times statues like these were placed inside ones house.
The human figure is an invitation for the Marapu to move inside the statue and to protect and guide the habitants of the house. Marapu is an ancestral religion practiced in Sumba, believed to be the occupants of the eternal heaven, living in couples and leading a similar existence to men.

The statue comes complete with the black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted, every piece is an original, showcasing the natural beauty of the wood with organic imperfections and cracks. The handmade metal support carries its own authenticity, with subtle imperfections and the potential for a natural patina to emerge over time.
Dimensions: 25 x 25 x 185cm with the stand.
