Set of Buddha's hands from Laos
A SYMBOL OF LEARNING
This beautiful set of Buddha’s hands is handmade in brass with black wooden bases and comes from Louang Prabang in Laos.
In Buddhism and Hinduism the different symbolic hand gestures, called Mudras, have different meanings. This position of the hand with the tips of the thumb and index finger touching each other, symbolizes the teaching phase in Buddhism. The circle formed by the thumb and forefinger maintains the constant flow of energy, where there is no beginning and no end, only perfection.
It is called Vitarka Mudra, a name deriving from Sanskrit. Vitarka means "reasoning".
The set comes complete with blackened stands and its story printed out inside a beautiful envelope. Being handmade each set is very slightly different.
Dimensions: Each hand is ca 33cm tall x 12,5 x 8cm wide
