A SYMBOL OF TRADITION

This special piece comes from the island of Borneo in Indonesia, made with ancient techniques.

Pottery making in Borneo has deep roots in the island’s cultural and spiritual traditions, dating back thousands of years. Traditionally, pottery was crafted by indigenous communities like the Dayak, who used locally sourced clay to create functional vessels for storing water, cooking, and ceremonial purposes. Each piece was often hand-shaped without the use of a potter's wheel, decorated with intricate motifs inspired by nature, ancestors, and spiritual beliefs. Pottery held symbolic significance, often linked to rituals, blessings, and offerings. Though much of this ancient craft has been replaced by modern materials, traditional pottery continues to hold cultural value, reflecting the rich heritage and artisanal skills passed down through generations.

The vase is the only one in our collection today and is perfectly imperfect like shown in the photos. Age unknown. It comes complete with its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Dimensions: 19 x 23cm
