Feather And Shell Necklace From Papua

Sale price$152.00 USD

SYMBOL OF A WISH COME TRUE

This beautiful necklace was made as per ancient techniques with spiral shells, rooster feathers and natural fibre by local artisans on the island of Papua.
On Papua shells represent prosperity and are often used during wedding ceremonies, believed to bring emotional and financial wealth. Here shell necklaces have been worn by local tribes since ancient times, to enhance the body as well as marking status and achievements. With the shell’s strong mythological importance they were considered to be the links between the human and the spiritual world, bringing fertility and well-being. In the past, shells travelled on long pathways through the Asian Pacific, used as exchange items or currency and for creating ties and relationships between people. It was a symbol of the bond between human and nature, used during big ceremonies.
In several myths in Southeast Asia the rooster has the power to revive the dead, or to make a wish come true. It is considered sacred within the spiritual realm.

The necklace comes complete with a blackened metal stand and its intriguing story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being handmade each piece is slightly different.

Dimensions: 86cm tall by 35cm with the stand.
