This beautiful set includes a white feather necklace and 2 shell money rings, complete on metal stands.

The necklace comes from Papua in Indonesia and is made out of rooster feathers, beads and shells embroidered on to a natural fiber crochet base. It was a symbol of the bond between human and nature, used during big ceremonies. In several myths, the rooster has the power to revive the dead or to make a wish come true. It is considered sacred within the spiritual realm.

The money rings comes from Papua New Guinea and are made from cone shells. In Papua money rings were created as currency, mainly used for bride price or for purchasing expensive items. Money rings with this dimension were often used as bracelets worn high up on the arm. In Papua it was the duty of the man’s family to pay for his bride, as compensation for the time and resources the family put into her before she reached adulthood. During the bride price ceremony a man would throw a feast, offer his future wife’s family pigs, and a bride price piece like a money ring.

The suite comes with the stories of the artefacts printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted with organic materials, each piece is slightly different containing beautiful, natural imperfections. Books not included.

  • The necklace: ca 53cm tall and 22 x 9cm wide
