DIVINE PROSPERITY

This pristine suite includes a beautiful wooden horse statue and a set of 2 pectoral breast plates, complete with the blackened metal supports.

The horse statue (Kuda means horse in Indonesian) was carved by hand by local artisans on the island of Sumba in Indonesia, made as per ancient techniques.

In Sumba horses are considered to be almost at the same level as the ancestors who rule the universe, being used for many purposes, the most important being as a dowry in wedding rituals and as offerings during funeral ceremonies, allowing the dead to ride to their ancestors in the afterlife. The amount of horses a family has represent its social status.

The breast plates were hand crafted in brass on the island of Timor in Indonesia. Discs like these were given to warriors upon their successful returns as a reward, and later worn as a symbol of prestige during ceremonies. The designs on the plate are celestial ornaments, evoking the cosmos.
As per antique tradition they were also presented as bride price in marriage contracts, paid by a groom or his family to the family of the woman he wanted to marry.

The suite comes with the stories of the artefacts printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted with organic materials, each piece is slightly different containing beautiful, natural imperfections and visible cracks in the wood.  The motifs on the breast plates vary, like you can see in the photo with the multiple discs.
